Big Smile Dempsey Ridge

My sister-in-law works for Acciona, an energy company that specializes in wind energy. Last week they had a dedication for a new wind farm in Oklahoma. The wind farm is technically named Dempsey Ridge. They are also calling it Big Smile in honor of a bright smiling colleague that sadly passed away.

Tea Time

Question: What do you do when you're asked to make cookies for a bridal shower and you're not given any colors?

Answer: You use all the colors of the rainbow.

The best part of delivery cookies is when the client is so happy she gives you a hug.

And special thanks for Sweetopia for her beautiful teapots, which were the inspiration for this order.

First Holy Communion

Paige is the youngest of my friend Michele's children and I've literally known her since she was about two days old. Her older brother and sister have already made their first holy communions and this year it was her turn. She looked like a little angel with her white dress and veil. I actually got teary when I saw her walk down the aisle.

Winnie the Pooh Flowers and Butterflies

Okay the title is misleading since technically no Winnie the Pooh in this post. However these butterflies and flower match the Winnie the Pooh crib bedding of a soon to be baby girl. My co-worker is expecting a little girl this summer. It would be a huge understatement to say he's excited. Even though he knows his whole world is about to turn upside down not to mention there's going to be a lot of pink in his future, I know he and his wife are counting down the days until they meets their girl.

Can't wait to meet you Baby Isabella!

He is Risen

I should leave the picture taking to my husband. My patience for a good picture was lacking as evidenced by the pictures in this post. The crosses were inspired by Simple Sweets by Honeybee. She's amazing! Go check out her blog. Seriously, go check it out now.

Business in the Front and Party in the Back

Question: What do you do when your baby has a mullet?

Answer: You throw a rock star themed party for her first birthday.

If you don't know what a mullet is, it's when you have short hair in the front and long hair in the back. Quite stylish.

Do you have a wind turbine cookie cutter?

These are sample cookies I made for my sister-in-law. Last month she emailed me and asked if I had a wind turbine cookie cutter. Now I like to joke that I have every cookie cutter imaginable. The number of cutters in my collection is almost embarrassing. Yet I do not have a wind turbine cutter so I can no longer make that joke. I did search for one after she asked, but the only thing I could come up with was a wind mill cutter from Copper Gifts. I nearly bought it, but I was a little worried that it might be a fragile shape. There's nothing more depressing (at least in the cookie world) than a cookie that breaks easily.

Anyway back to the wind turbine cookies, my sister-in-law works for a company that harvests wind energy. In May, they are dedicating a new wind farm in Oklahoma and about 200 people have been invited to the event. I may be making lots and lots of wind turbine cookies in the near future.

Follow the Yellow Brick Road

A couple of weeks ago, I received an inquiry about making 400-500 cookies for a children's production of the Wizard of Oz. Unfortunately I wasn't able to take the order as I'm only a one woman operation and they needed the cookies in less than a wee. Plus they needed to be shipped a few states away. I was crazy enough to consider doing it though. If only there were more than 24 hours in a day.

Funny enough a few days later, I got another inquiry to make Wizard of Oz cookies for a baby shower in CA. This time the amount of cookies was much more manageable. The only worry was shipping fragile shaped cookies to CA. I think I read every blog post and tutorial about shipping cookies that exists. Thankfully, they arrived safely and the client was pleased. Phew!

Triple Letter Score

My Father-In-Law, Eric's birthday was earlier this month, but we celebrated it late due scheduling conflicts. Some Eric tid bits-he's a kind of a quiet guy (he and I are cut from the same cloth on that one), dearly loves his wife (naturally), loves to read, play Scrabble, shop at Costco, eat interesting foods, and is a real softie when it comes to babies and children. As I type this post, I realize Eric and I have a lot of things in common. Although I'm not a Costco member, which is probably a relief for our checking account. Normally he's traveling all over the country teaching bridge inspection courses, but we were fortunate enough to spend some time with him last weekend. Last year I made him some bridge cookies. I'm going to have really brainstorm for next year's batch.

This is actually my second round with Scrabble cookies, but the first one said Happy Valentine's Day and I didn't get a picture of them. So you'll have to take my word on their cuteness. You see I jumped the gun and made Eric cookies before I realized that we wouldn't be getting together for another few weeks. Fortunately, my co-workers and my husband's co-workers don't mind (reject) extra cookies.

Special thanks to Bridget of Bake 350 for her creative use of scrabble letters.

Welcome to the World

My co-worker's mother-in-law ordered these cookies for her co-worker that just had a baby boy. She gave me creative license for the arrangement which is always fun. Even better, she thoughtfully asked that I include Baby Jonathan's older sister, Adaline. So I got to include some pink girly cookies in the order. Win win.

For all those that aren't fans not the NBC TV show, The Office, you can tune out now.

For all those that are fans of The Office, this was a win win win. And Oscar didn't even have to wear a t-shirt with a picture of babies playing musical instruments.

Special thanks to Lilaloa for her fantastic cookie cutter, which made the "Baby Boy" cookie. And thanks to SweetAmbs for her tutorial on tufted cookies, seen on the "Baby Boy" cookie. It's hard to see in the picture, but it looks like a checkerboard and makes the cookie a little bit puffy, in a good way.
